Billie Tsien and Tod Williams barely stopped to sleep during their week as Senior Loeb Scholars at the GSD in March. In addition to lectures, reviews and class visits, they generously spent many informal hours in lively conversations with students and Loeb Fellows and affiliates over meals.
Tsien was a guest in the Architectural Practice and Ethics Class taught by Maryann Thompson and Jay Wickersham. Her discussions with 20 women students about the roles of women in architecture effectively served to re-launch the Women in Design group at the GSD. Tsien and Williams spent an afternoon with the 1st year Core Architecture students to explore their distinctive approach to materials, and they participated in the mid-term review for the 2nd year Core Architecture students.
The highlight of their residency was a public lecture Tuesday night for a full house in Piper Auditorium. Dinner followed the lecture with Dean Mohsen Mostafavi and the architecture faculty and others.
